Itinerary
We begin our journey early, allowing time for breakfast before hitting the road. The route from the Kathmandu Valley winds down the valley wall until we reach the Trushuli River below. Here, we spot adventurous rafters navigating the white water – a potential future adventure – and catch glimpses of distant snow-capped mountains.
Once we reach flatter terrain, we take a break for lunch before continuing on to Pokhara, the scenic lake city. After checking in at the hotel, you’ll have time to explore the neighborhood: stroll along the lakeside walkway, browse the diverse shops and restaurants, and admire the majestic Fishtail Mountain towering over the city.

Following breakfast, a brief drive takes you to Naya Pool, the launching point for your trek. You have the option of traveling by bus, local jeep, or private car/taxi to reach this starting point.
From Naya Pool, it’s time to hit the trails! After passing through the checkpoint at Birethanti, the path gradually ascends to Tikhe Dhunga. The hike to the overnight lodge at Tikhe Dhunga typically spans 4 to 5 hours. Fortunately, today’s trek isn’t too challenging, but it’s enough to invigorate your hiking muscles!

As we cross the suspension bridge near Tikhe Dhunga, we gear up for today’s challenging hike! The trail transforms into more of a climb than a typical hike, featuring well over 3,000 steps on the steep stone staircase leading up to Ulleri village. Those who have prepared in advance by incorporating stair climbing into their routine at home will have a significant advantage.
Beyond Ulleri, as we emerge from the forest, the terrain becomes gentler, winding through pastures and fields. Passing through Banthanti village, we continue onwards to Ghorepani, our overnight stop. Already, we’re treated to stunning vistas of several towering mountains, including Annapurna I (8,091m / 26,545 ft) and Dhaulagiri (8,167m / 26,794 ft).

Rising before dawn, we embark on a hike lasting about an hour to reach Poon Hill (3,210m), where we eagerly await the sunrise over the majestic Himalayas! As the early morning chill envelops us, we sip on hot tea while marveling at the breathtaking panorama of mountains spread out before us. Among the notable peaks visible are Hiuchuli, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Lamjung Himal, and the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) – and many more, which our guide will gladly point out.
Once the sun has gracefully ascended over the mountains, casting a spectacular glow, and we’ve captured enough memories through our lenses, we reluctantly tear ourselves away to descend back to the lodge in Ghorepani. There, we indulge in a well-deserved breakfast before continuing our journey towards Tadapani.
The trail to Tadapani begins with a steep ascent, but as we cross the Deurali Pass, the path becomes more manageable. From the Deurali Pass, we’re treated to a second opportunity to admire the magnificent mountains we beheld from Poon Hill. We spend the night in Tadapani, ready to embrace the next leg of our adventure.

It is mainly Gurungs who are the fierce and loyal Gurkha soldiers in both the British and Indian armies. With snowy peaks, rest and relaxation are welcome breaks today.
